Our Story

1. Early Innovations and Foundations (1988-1999)

Datasonics received an Australian Government Grant in 1988 to develop innovative music composition and notation software, leading to the release of Music Master™ as a DOS application in 1992, later redeveloped for Microsoft Windows®. Key milestones included:

  1. Collaborating with Roland Japan on the VS Pro™ software engine for the Roland VS Workstation.
  2. Presenting at the Australian Technology Showcase (ATS) and Sydney 2000 Olympics.

2. Inspiring Online Learning (2000-2003)

The journey toward Mastering Music™ began in 2000 when teachers using Music Master™ sought tools to integrate music technology into their classrooms. The software's unique MIDI-to-notation integration enabled fast, accurate composition with a single version for playback and printing. Teachers, however, needed solutions for individualized learning, curriculum alignment, and efficient lesson preparation-needs that inspired Datasonics to develop online lessons aligned to the music curriculum.

3. Expansion and Industry Partnerships (2004-2017)

Datasonics expanded its impact through key collaborations and new offerings:

  1. Worked with Austrade on its stand at both the 2004 and 2005 British Education Technology Show (BETT) in London.
  2. Partnered with Alfred Publishing USA for Essentials of Music Theory (V3) (2008-2010).
  3. Became an approved NSW Government ICT supplier for music e-learning.
  4. Extended services to web development and bespoke website solutions for clients.
  5. Collaborated with a university lecturer to launch Grammar In A Nutshell™ (2014-2017) to teach English grammar.

4. Transition to Browser-Based Learning (2018-2020)

As schools adopted BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies, installed software became problematic, especially on Chromebooks. In response, Datasonics reimagined Mastering Music™ as a fully browser-based platform, enabling access from any device without installation. Released in mid-2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mastering Music Online™ provided a vital remote learning tool.

5. New Horizons with Learn Music Online (2025)

In 2025, Datasonics introduced Learn Music Online™, built on the Mastering Music Online™ engine. Designed for homeschoolers, families, and schools, it offers a simplified version for classrooms and home use while preserving the platform's hallmark of high-quality music education.

6. Continuing Innovation and Commitment

Datasonics remains dedicated to advancing its platforms through user feedback and collaborations with educators, music professionals, and technology experts-continuing to shape the future of music education.
